3D model of a Molten Iron ladle
repair using AutoDesk Inventor
A 380 tonne hot metal torpedo derailed at the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking Plant. A safe recovery plan was required due to the inaccessibility of the site and the torpedo filled with molten steel.
The recovery was required urgently due to the fear of the steel solidifying. PEA developed a 3D modelled in AutoDesk Inventor in conjunction with BSL engineers, to enable the safe recovery of this hot metal torpedo.
The model was developed using two people working 12 hours shifts continuously to speed up the recovery. The layouts were all modelled along with the existing equipment. Once concepts where finalised, detail drawings of lifting and jacking equipment where then prepared. This lifting and jacking equipment was then used to safely remove the hot metal torpedo.
